Bagpuss is a stop-motion animated TV show created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin under the banner of their company, Smallfilms. Despite its limited run of 13 episodes and one season, Bagpuss became firmly entrenched in British culture and reruns continued until 1986 - 12 years after the show finished.

Bagpuss's cultural impact stretched far and wide, from the 2003 Radiohead album 'Hail to the Thief' (Thom Yorke greatly enjoyed watching the show with his son) to Oliver Postgate funding a hospice wing in Brașov, Romania in 2002 with the royalties he received from the BBC for Bagpuss.

Bagpuss himself has been the recipient of an honorary degree at the University of Kent in Canterbury - the degrees were handed to Postgate and Firmin, however Postgated stated that the degree was 'really meant for Bagpuss'. Up until 2017, Bagpuss resided in the Rupert Bear Museum in Canterbury (with his friend Rupert Bear), but after the museum's closure the pair of them moved to the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge.
